Post-colonialism: blog task

1)

Fanon - "putting on the white mask"
Alvarado - 4 representation of black people.
Said - East vs West, uncivilized vs civilized

2)

One example is that how the dirty man used a finger to eat peanut butter over a spoon , another way is through the way the tea was cooked. Yasmin on the other hand shows the clash between east vs west, this is done through how she changes clothes when going work and when she is in the community she dresses differently.

3)

In the clips as we witness three black males talking about guys skinny jeans. They refer to men who wear skinny jeans to be 'gay' as they strongly believe that women only should be the ones only wearing clothing as such. After slagging of the white male they talk about their heritage in a comedic way. The way in which they do it is by talking about their genital area size and how they've impregnated every race to create people like the Portuguese, mixed race etc. Alvarado's theory of the four main representations of black people can be applied to this text which is exotic, humorous, pitted and dangerous.  In the text we're able to establish that the three black males come across as humorous, exotic and dangerous. They are perceived as dangerous in the way they are dressed and the look that they have. Furthermore, the place where they are talk is commonly associated with gang violence, robbery which is an estate area. In the second clip we witness the exotic side to the representation of black people. For instance, when the guys brother is coming out from the car and starts signing in the chicken shop. We witness his younger brother who is fairly quiet which isn't common for a young black man to be represented in that sense therefore; we could potentially link it to the fact that he's putting on 'the white mask' which links to Fanon's theory.

NDM:The Sun's move away from topless page 3 models may entice new advertisers

The Sun replaced its usual topless page 3 model in Tuesday's paper with pictures of Hollyoaks actors in swimwear
http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/jan/20/the-sun-topless-page-3-models-advertisers

The Sun’s decision to drop topless models from page 3 could lead to a boost in the tabloid’s advertising revenues, according to industry experts who said the nudity had put off a string of global brands from buying space in the paper.

I think that the Sun's decision to drop topless models from page 3 is a step to a wider audience and advertising revenues. More popular companies would want to now put their adverts on the paper as a result of this.

NDM : Snapchat adds entertainment and news with Discover

snapchat
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jan/27/snapchat-discover-video-music-messaging-app

Snapchat is aiming to become much more than a social media app by making content from the likes of Vice Media, Cosmopolitan magazine and CNN available to users.

due to the fact as it snap chat is currently used as a reputable journalism tool for UGC content and citizen journalism by many individual as it allows the news to be unfiltered, un-tampered and unbiased and allows it to reach a wider audience
